PRODUCTION PHASES

PRE-PRODUCTION

My final project was filmed on my own device, Iphone 12 pro. This project explores a hybrid genre that blends the psychological intensity of a thriller with the speculative, reality-bending elements of science fiction. By combining grounded psychological storytelling with high-concept visual disruptions, I have developed a foundation that supports a narrative rooted in uncertainty, fractured perception, and atmospheric suspense.
This section documents the creative decisions, planning processes, and technical preparations that shaped the conceptual direction of my hybrid psychological thriller–sci-fi sequence.

 ONE LINER {SILENT ANNIHILATION}

When reality begins to glitch, a teenager trapped in isolation discovers that the greatest threat may be the version of herself she cannot escape.

SCRIPT

CAST AND AUDITIONS

The casting for my opening sequence was intentionally minimal, as I chose to portray the protagonist myself rather than holding auditions or casting additional actors. By acting as the protagonist, I was able to maintain full creative control over the character’s behavior and facial expressions.

CHARACTER MOODBOARD

Nova is the central character in my opening sequence and represents a psychologically complex protagonist whose inner thoughts drive the narrative. Although she initially appears calm and ordinary, subtle elements such as her behavior and the disturbing ideas written in her notebook suggest that there is a deeper psychological conflict within her. This contrast between Nova’s composed exterior and her hidden thoughts helps establish suspense and encourages the audience to question her true intentions as the narrative develops.

BEHIND THE SCENES

To really show the raw side of the opening sequence being filmed, i filmed some clips and made two small edits of the main scenes where I'm acting and the process behind it all.

POST PRODUCTION

The editing software i used for my final project was InShot, as its a software I'm familiar with and understand easily and also since it was the only accessible option for me.

Editing my final project, I focused a lot on the effects and visual presentation of all my clips, like the filters, exposure, had to try multiple filters and effects to see what worked the best for me. Sound effects like the thunder rumbling sound and also the gunshot sound effect, had to be incorporated on beat and at the right time for the right effect on the audience.
As for the music i used songs by some of my favorite artists like The Weeknd, Kanye West and The Kid Laroi.
In the beginning, I used nights like this by The Kid Laroi. The track has a calm and atmospheric sound, with soft instrumentals and a slower tempo that creates a reflective mood. This worked well within my opening sequence because it helped create a quiet and introspective atmosphere around the character, Nova.

And then during Nova's writing scene, Runaway by Kanye west starts to play. Released as part of the album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Runaway is widely recognized for its minimalist piano introduction and emotional depth. The slow and haunting tone of the music enhances the psychological elements of the opening sequence and encourages the audience to focus on the internal thoughts and emotional state of the protagonist.

Finally, during Nova's masked scene and shooting scene, Without a Warning by The Weeknd starts playing. The Weeknd is known for creating dark, atmospheric music that often explores themes of mystery, nightlife, and emotional conflict. Without Warning has a more intense and moody sound. By including this song, the sequence strengthens the sense that something unsettling or unexpected may develop as the story progresses.
